Our Care Team

CareWorks Health Services, a locally owned and operated California licensed in-home care services agency, was established in 2010.

Our caregivers are dedicated to providing exceptional senior home care assistance. To ensure professionalism and safety, we require our home care aides (HCAs) to have a minimum of one year of professional caregiving experience.

As one of the top agencies providing senior home care in Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Woods, Mission Viejo, Seal Beach, and the Orange County area, we require all of our applicants to undergo a thorough vetting procedure, in which they must pass a 25 point vetting procedure, which includes:

- Screening by two federal agencies (LiveScan)
- Comprehensive background checks
- Professional reference check
- DMV check and auto insurance check
- A drug screen and must be drug free
- Must be registered with the state (HCA#)
- Must have a negative TB test
- Must be trained in CPR
- Must be compassionate, reliable and have integrity

Anh Dang Mankiewicz, Founder and President

My first experience in caregiving was when I was a teenager. My dad had a massive stroke, which left him with very limited ability to care for himself. It was difficult on everyone, and that experience shaped me into who I am today. I had to grow up fast while learning to slow down to help my dad as he rehabbed. My dad never regained 100% of his ability to do things on his own; however, he got to remain independent because he had determination and his family helping with caregiving for activities of daily living he wasn’t able to do on his own. I do understand firsthand how a good caregiver can make a difference.
The things I am most passionate about are my business, ensuring our clients are satisfied with our services, yoga, and shoes (I never have enough space in my bedroom-sized closet). When I am not shoe shopping or working on my business, I am brunching with family and friends.

Sam McGavin, Director of Operations

I have been very fortunate to have served southern California seniors for over ten years in the home care industry. In that time, I have seen firsthand how vital home care is to our aging community. Doing my part to ensure the health and happiness of our clients in their homes is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my career. When I’m not in the office, I am usually spending time with my wife and daughter, watching sports, playing board games with friends, exploring the community for new food adventures, or trying (and mostly failing) to make people laugh with cringe-inducing “dad jokes.”

Buddy Atizado, Care Manager

Buddy is responsible for quality assurance visits, introducing clients to their caregivers, and performing in-home assessments. He sets up each client’s care book and oversees the overall care of all of our clients, while mentoring and coaching our caregivers. Buddy is also a race car driver, and in his spare time, you’ll likely find him in the garage, preparing for his days at the track. He loves spending time with his wife, two kids, and dog Moki, and traveling whenever he gets the chance.

Lisa Palmer, Services Coordinator

When I am not in the office, you can find me at the beach or pool, spending time with family and friends, kayaking, hiking, trying new restaurants, watching movies, or enjoying weekend getaways. I am optimistic, adventurous and love to meet new people. I am passionate about helping others, enjoying life’s simple pleasures, live music, staying active and traveling.

Karen Barber, Scheduling Coordinator

I love home care because I love helping people get the care and assistance they need. My favorite quote is, “To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.” When I am not working, I love going on outings and spending time with my family.

I chose to work in home care because I want to be of service to other people as much as possible. My favorite quote would be from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s Little Prince, “And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” I’m known to be someone a lot of people can become comfortable with in a short period of time; at one point I would be invisible to you, and then the next minute you would have already shared your life story with me! When I am not working, I am either enjoying a good book or going on a road trip (I love doing long drives!) with my girlfriend.

Annalyn Magarin, Recruiter

I have been working in recruiting in different industries for years now, and it has drawn my passion into helping people find jobs they will love. When I am not at work, you can find me at home with my family trying out a new recipe to munch on or watching movies with them. I am a homebody and love the comfort of just being with family. I believe that everything starts in the family, and by just being there with them, fulfilling my motherhood duties also means serving the world. I am also passionate about cooking (I love carbonara!), music tripping and surfing the net to look for ways to decorate and declutter our house.

Donna Lynn Barerra, Human Resources Coordinator

I have always had the drive to help people, whether it is directly or indirectly. It makes me happy to see I can make an impact in someone’s life, no matter how big or small it may be. One of my favorite quotes I live by is by Forest Gump: “Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get.” I truly believe in that statement because every day is a different experience, and whether it is good or bad, it is what you make of it. When I am not working, you can catch me binge-watching the latest shows on Netflix or Disney+. I am a pretty big Disney fanatic (ask any of my friends). I love Disney so much I visit Downtown Disney at least every other week and when I get the chance, Disneyland. My bucket list is to go to every Disney park around the world. I am a pretty big foodie as well and enjoy trying out the latest food eateries. I love to try new experiences, whether it is traveling out of town to a new city or country, watching my favorite artists perform live in concert, or catching a basketball game.

Ashley Reed, Scheduler

I joined this field almost ten years ago as a caregiver and worked my way to scheduler. I enjoy hearing the stories from the clients as well as getting to know the caregivers because I feel like I learn something new every day. When I am not busy working away in the office you can catch me out and about with my husband and our cats. We love to travel and go to the beach; the beach is my favorite place in the whole world. We like to try new restaurants and my favorite type of food is seafood. I love all kinds of music; my tastes include everything from old school rock to country. When I am not out and about I love to just sit at home and binge watch movies and TV. My favorite movie is The Little Mermaid and I could repeat word for word the entire movie. My favorite TV shows include Doctor Who and Grey’s Anatomy. I look forward to working for CareWorks for many years to come and growing along with the company.

Anne Taylor-Loughran, RN, Field Assessments

People often refer to me as: “Saint Anne.” This is my “trail name” as I am an avid hiker. I got this name not because I am so saintly, but because I love to hike in the Santa Ana Mountains (Spanish for Saint Anne). The highest peak I have hiked is Mount Whitney, the tallest mountain in the Continental United States. I made this trek on my 35th wedding anniversary with my husband, Steve, who is a Nurse Practitioner in Orange County. We met in the ICU while we were both working at UCI Medical Center.
I love serving the world by helping others with their healthcare. I am most passionate about improving and serving in our healthcare system. I was drawn to work in healthcare in high school and have enjoyed learning new things every day, from clients that I see, to caregivers caring for people, to other members of the healthcare teams. I have a master’s degree in nursing and love to continue to learn. When I am not busy, you can catch me playing with my cats or riding my electric bike.
